How to Breed Foals and Calves in Farmville

Did you ever look at your newsfeed and see tons of foals or calves being produced by one of your friends or neighbors? I mean, there could be 40 or 50 posts for all different types of foals or calves. The thing you are wondering is how they produce so many so fast and what their trick is.
Breeding baby animals in Farmville is not as difficult as some think. You’ve probably noticed that some of your friends are master breeders. Now you can be, too. Whether you fancy horses and foals or cows and calves, we have the breeding information you’re seeking.
So, where do you want to start? Breeding Foals or breeding calves?

Breeding Horses to Produce Foals
Things you’ll need to start breeding:
There are a few things you’ll need to have to get on your way to becoming a great Farmville horse breeder. You will need these items to start breeding foals:
1. A fully built horse stable
2. A stallion
3. At least one Special Horse (one that you want to breed)
4. OPTIONAL – Seed Horses (to turn out many foals at once
If you don’t have a stallion, you can use a ‘Wandering Stallion’ in its place. However, you CANNOT produce many foals at once with a Wandering Stallion. And there is no guarantee that you will even produce a foal when you shelter a Wandering Stallion. Before we start, let’s just discuss the stallions a little.
——————————————————————————–
About Stallions in Farmville
To be able to breed horses, you must have a stallion. Stallions that can produce foals come in the following forms:
• White Stallion (Feb 2010 Valentine Mystery Box, May 2010 Best of Box/Chest, Aug 2010 Mystery Game 11)
• Pink Stallion (Feb 2011 Valentine Mystery Game 36)
• Snow Stallion (Dec 2010 500 holiday gifts, 1 to share with a friend, rarely from winter whimsy)
• Black Mini Stallion (Dec 2010 Winter Holiday Mystery Game 27)
• Miniature Stallion (Aug 2010 Mystery Game 4, Oct 2010 Mystery Game 18)
• Wandering Stallion (On newsfeed)
Notes:
o The White, Pink, Black Mini, and Miniature Stallion must have been found in a mystery game/box/chest.
o The Snow stallion was available over the 2010 holiday season. If you saved 500 or more holiday gifts, you could have redeemed them for the Stallion, which you were also able to share with one friend. It was also possible to find a Snow Stallion in a ‘Winter Whimsy’ from the same holiday event.
o The Wandering Stallion can be found on your friends’ and neighbors’ profiles and on your newsfeed. It does not go into your giftbox. It goes straight into your stable and only lasts 1 day. If you do not have a barn fully completed, clicking on the Wandering Stallion in the newsfeed or profile will give you one set of components needed to build the stable (1 of each: brick, board, nail, horseshoe, harness)
If you do not have a stallion, our you can search your newsfeed and friends’ walls for a Wandering Stallion post.

The Breeding Process
OK, back to the breeding. Breeding is simple. But there are two ways to go about it: The simple way, and the less simple way.
The simple way to breed horses is very easy. Fill your stable up with as many horses as you like and make sure you have a stallion in it. Harvest your stable once a day. You will either receive a foal, arborists, farmhands, 100 XP, or nothing (but coins).
The less simple way is more involved and similar to what you can do with your other ‘Buildings with Purpose’. The main thing we are attempting to do this way is produce many foals in one sitting. Typically, only one foal (or consumable) can be produced and you must wait another day to do it again. By doing these few steps, you’ll be able to turn out foal after foal.
The general idea of what we are attempting to do is this: Take an empty stable at 0% and make it 100% so we can place special horses inside and produce special foals for our friends and neighbors.

• You do not need a Miniature Stallion to produce a Miniature Foal
• You need a Miniature Stallion to produce the white counterpart of the Stallion
• A Wandering Stallion will not effect the breed of a foal
• White, Black, and Pink Stallions have a chance of producing a foal the same color as itself
• A farmer cannot keep the foals that are found. Once posted to the newsfeed, up to 4 neighbors can claim it.
• When your neighbors place the foals into their nursery barn, unless they are brown, gray, speckled black, or black, the foal will become a black horse.
• When you put your foals into the nursery barn to grow up, they will not become the same type of horse that they are as a foal (ex. Pinto foal will not become Pinto horse, it will become a Black Horse)

Instructions for Breeding Many Foals in One Sitting
Step 1: Empty all the horses from your stable and have your seed horses (the common ones like gray, brown, black, etc) waiting on your farm outside the stable. Wait for your horses to reach 34% or more. Your seed horses MUST be at least 34% before you can start. 33% will not work. It will take at least one day for your horses to become 34% ready outside the Horse Stable.
Step 2: Select the ‘move’ tool. Pick up and place one seed horse into the stable. The stable will become ready.
Step 3: Choose what type of foal you want to breed. Pick up the special horses that you have chosen to make this foal and place them into the stable. The more horses of a certain type of that you have in the stable will increase the probablity of you receiving a foal, especially a foal of that type of horse.
Step 4: Place your stallion in the stable. You cannot breed without a stallion. If you do not have one, you can purchase one in the market for 40 Farm Cash. Remember, you can’t go to Step 5 until you have a Stallion.
Step 5: Now, switch to the ‘multi’ tool and click on the stable to harvest it. A message will appear telling you what your reward is. This could be a foal, XP, consumable, or just a money amount. Hopefully, it is a foal. That’s why we are doing this.
Step 6: Completely empty your stable and start again at Step 2. You can continue for as long as you have seed horses or patience.

Breeding Cows to Produce Calves
Breeding cows in Farmville is similar to breeding horses.
The things you’ll need to start breeding are:
• A dairy barn
• A bull
• Special Cows (like pink, disco, longhorn, etc)
• OPTIONAL – Seed Cows (common ones like ‘cow’, ‘brown cow’, etc)
The Bull
First, let’s discuss the bull a little bit. The ‘Bull’ is an adoptable ‘lost animal’ that appears on players’ farms. If it appears on your farm, you have the option of sharing it with your friends or not sharing it. You cannot keep the bull that you find on your farm. If you are seeking one, you can look on your newsfeed and friends’ profiles.
Unlike the Wandering Stallion, the bull is permanent once you claim it and it will stay on your farm until you choose to sell it. The Bull will not automatically be placed in the dairy. It will can be located in your giftbox after you claim it.
Bulls can be harvested everyday for 80 coins. One bull can be kept in each dairy and you can have up to 5 dairies. Only one bull can be placed in a dairy at a time. There is not reason to have multiple bulls in a dairy at any time.
Bulls are necessary for producing calves. They have no effect on the breed of calves. The calf produced will be the same breed as its mother. Bull calves cannot be produced in Farmville.

Choosing a Breed of Cow to Produce
There are a ton of different types of cows in Farmville, but there is only one type of Bull.
These cows have all been available in Farmville:
Cow, Autumn Cow, Belted Cow, Blue Cow, B0V1NE-09, Brown Cow, Candy Cane Cow, Chocolate Cow, Devon Cow, Dexter Cow, Disco Cow, English Cow, Fan Cow, Gelbvieh Cow, Green Patch Cow, Pink Patch Cow, Yellow Patch Cow, Groovy Cow, Holiday Cow, Holstein Cow, Jersey Cow, Kelly Green Cow, Longhorn Cow, Neapolitan Cow, New Year Cow, Panda Cow, Pink Cow, Red Cow,Valentine Cow, Purple Valentine Cow, Referee Cow, Robot Cow, Simmental Cow, Tuscan Cow, and Western Longhorn Cow
Bulls have no effect on the type of calf produced. The calf will be the same breed as its mother. Having multiple cows of the same breed will give you a higher chance of finding a calf of that breed. When you are thinking about which type of calf you want to produce, simply look at its mother’s breed.
Oxen, Yaks, and Buffalo cannot be placed inside the dairy.

Where to get cows
You can get cows from all different types of places. Some are free, some cost coins, and others cost Farm Cash. Here are the different places you can get cows from:
1. Cows can be received as free gifts.
You can ask your friends to send you cows as free gifts. If you go to your gift box you also have the option to ‘Make a Wish’ for cows. This ‘wish’ will be posted to your newsfeed where your friends will be able to click on it and send you cows. Your neighbors can also buy and send you Farm Cash cows from the market by clicking ‘send’ instead of ‘buy’.
2. Lost Animals
Occassionally, a cow will show up as a lost animal on a farm. If a lost cow shows up on your farm, you can choose to help it or turn it away. If you help the cow, it will be placed up for adoption on your profile and the newsfeed. You cannot keep the cow that shows up on your farm but your friends will be able to claim it for themselves. If a lost cow shows up on your friends’ farms, you will have the option of adopting it. Groovy Cows, Brown Cows, and Pink Cows have all been lost animals.
3. Calves grow into cows in the Nursery Barn
Calves that are placed in the nursery barn will grow up to be Holstein Cows and Chocolate Cows.
4. Buy cows in the Market
Different cows can be bought in the market. Some cost coins while others cost Farm Cash. Typically, the cows that cost Farm Cash are often limited edition cows are only available for a short time. Cows that can be bought for coins in the market are rare. However, the Belted Cow, purchasable for 1,000,000 coins, is always available to be bought from the market if you are level 75 or above.
5. Cows can be prizes for different events
Some cows come free in the form of an event prize. The Yellow Patch Cow could be redeemed for 225 spring flowers in the Spring Basket 2011 Event. The disco cow was the final prize for the Winter Countdown of 2010.
6. Zynga gives away cows for different reasons
The Holiday Cow was a present for Christmas from Zynga during December of 2010. The Red Cow was a possible prize from the Zynga Lotto.
7. Cows can be obtained through various company events and reward point redemptions
Sometimes companies promote themselves through Farmville and offer incentives for doing different tasks. The Neapolitan Cow could be obtained during May through July of 2010 by purchasing a pint of vanilla ice cream at 7-Eleven. The Purple Cow cost 540 Membership Reward Points from American Express.
8. Some cows can only be received through a mystery item or game
The Panda Cow, which was available in the 38th Mystery Game. The Longhorn Cow was available through the 7th Mystery Game.
9. The Longhorn Cow can show up at the Animal Trough
As long as you have an animal trough on your farm, you have a chance of finding a Longhorn Cow.
——————————————————————————–
The Breeding Process
Unlike the horse stable, the dairy can only produce calves once a day. There is no infinite breeding available with this building. The only way to possibly produce more calves in one day is by having more than one dairy. You can have up to 5 dairies on your farm at once, but remember that you must have one bull in each building to be able to produce calves.
To breed calves, start with an empty dairy. Add your bull and the cows you want to breed. Harvest milk everyday from the dairy and you might get a calf. Come back the next day and harvest again. You can only harvest your dairy once every 24 hours.
To breed specific calves, choose only the breeds of cows you want to produce calves for and place them in the dairy with the bull. For example, if you want to produce Tuscan Calves, only place Tuscan Cows and a bull in the dairy. If you place another type of cow in with Tuscan Cows, there is a chance that your will get that type of calf instead of the Tuscan Calf.
Some things to remember:
o You cannot keep the calves you produce. Only your friends can claim them off the newsfeed or your profile.
o Calves will be the same breed as their mothers.
o Bull calves do not exist.
o You can receive a calf the same breed as any of the cows in the dairy. So if there are 5 different cow breeds, you will get a calf the same breed as one of those breeds. The type of calf you receive will be a surprise.
o You can use the stable-stuffing trick with the dairy if you are looking for more coins. But you still will only be able to get up to 1 calf per day from each dairy.
