How to Tell the Difference Between a Scam and a Real Farmville Post
1.
Look at the application name. If it says anything other than “via Farmville” or “via Farmville by Zynga”, it is a scam.
2.
On Facebook, there will be a “like” and “comment” button at the bottom of every post. Next to these will be a link to collect or claim the post’s reward. Before you click on the application that says “via Farmville” or “via Farmville by Zynga”, hover your cursor over the this link. In the status bar of your internet browser, the application should read “http://www.apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/…”. It is not real if it says anything other than “/onthefarm/”.

Hovering over "Get a Bushel" shows the correct Farmville Application ID in the internet browser status bar. This is a real Farmville post and is OK to click. (Click image to enlarge)
3.
When you hover your cursor over the “via Farmville” link, look at the last 4 digits of the application ID in the status bar of your internet browser. They should read “8776″. If they are different numbers, it is a scam. The full application ID is 102452128776.
4.
If you’ve never seen the object before, check it before you click it. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. You will not be able to obtain any item that can be harvested for Farm Cash, there is no such thing as a 66×66 farm expansion, and you will not get free farm cash for referring a page to ALL your facebook friends.

5.
View Farmville newsfeed posts by selecting “Most Recent > Games” at the top of the Facebook Newsfeed. This will show you all game posts. It will filter out most if not all of the scam applications.
"Games" to only show game posts.” width=”300″ height=”165″ />At the top of the Newsfeed, click "Most Recent" > "Games" to only show game posts. (Click to enlarge image)
6.
If it looks fake, it probably is fake. Are there any spelling or grammatical errors? If so, it’s not real. Zynga doesn’t make those types of mistakes.

The Infamous Rainbow Cow Scam - It looks fake, there are many typos and grammatical errors, and it doesn't come "via Farmville". (Click to enlarge image)
7.
Avoid Farmville pages that offer you “free” things. They are scams. If Zynga is not giving you the items, you won’t be able to get them. If they are not offered in Farmville or have not been released yet, you also will not be able to get them. If you click something and it tells you to be patient and you will receive your items in a certain time period (ex. 3 hours, 24 hours, 1 day, etc.), immediately close the page and run your virus scans. After you run the scans, change your Facebook password to avoid having your account hacked.

You will not get any free items from any of these pages. What you might get is spyware, malware, or a virus. (Click to enlarge image)

Anything that leads you to a different page or window when you click the link is bad news. Zynga will also never ask you to suggest a page to ALL your friends in exchange for a reward. (Click to enlarge image)
