Pigs and the Pigpen

Introduction to pigs

Pigs are animals in Farmville. They can be placed on your farm or in a pigpen. There are many different types of pigs including Domestic Pigs, Pot Belly Pigs, Miniature Pigs, Feral Pigs, and Piglets. Pigs can come from a number of different places and can be harvested for different amounts of coins.

Pigs hunt for truffles when placed in pigpens. You used to be able to send individual pigs on truffle hunts, but now with the new pig breeding system your pigs can only find up to one truffle a day when you harvest your pigpen. Truffles can be redeemed for different prizes and there are many different colored truffles. All types of pigs can hunt for truffles, including piglets and feral pigs.

Where to get pigs

You can get pigs from all kinds of places:

• Basic Pigs are available from Free Gifts and they are no longer available from the market. You can ask your friends to send you some or you can ‘Make a Wish’. On occasion, a special pig might be a free gift, such as the Party Pig which was available for Farmville’s first birthday.

• You can claim truffles off the newsfeed and redeem them for prizes. If you’re lucky, you’ll get what you’re looking for – a pig. Different truffles offer different pigs, amongst other prizes. Some pigs that can be received from truffles are: Ossabaw Pig, Black Pig, Strawberry Pig, White Pig, and Pink Pot Belly Pig.

• Some pigs are prizes of Mystery Games and Mystery Boxes. For example, the Black Pot Belly Pig was a prize of the 12th Mystery Game (it is also available in the market for 28 Farm Cash). The xx pig was a prize of the xx Mystery box.

• Pigs can be purchased in the market. Some cost Farm Cash, some cost coins. Limited Edition pigs typically cost Farm Cash and are usually only available for a certain period of time. The Saddleback Pig can be bought in the market for 300,000 coins, a good investment if you as looking to level up quickly as it will give you 3000 coins upon purchase.

Regular ‘Pigs’ were available in the market for 1,000 coins, but now must be obtained through Free Gifts.

• Pig Breeding has been introduced to Farmville. With this new breeding system, you can breed pigs together to produce piglets that will grow up into different colored pigs. You can post and claim piglets from the newsfeed. You can also trade pigs with friends!

Special Pigs

Farmville is filled with a menagerie of different pigs. But, there are some special ones that you might want to look out for.

Strawberry Pig

This pig cannot be purchased. It must be redeemed from a black or brown truffle. You can do three things with this pig.

1. You can place it on your farm where it can be harvested for 30 coins every other day.

2. You can place it in your pigpen where it can be harvested for 30 coins everyday and you might get lucky and find a black truffle when you harvest your pigpen. If you are lucky, you might even get another Strawberry Pig from the black truffle. However, the friend whose farm the truffle was found on will have to accept and share back the truffle for you to be able to get any benefit from it.

3. You can sell it for 15,000 coins. This is an extremely large amount of coins to sell an animal for. Especially for an animal that is essentially free. You’ll need to decide what you want to do with your Strawberry Pig.

Saddleback Pig

You can buy the Saddleback Pig in the market for 300,000 coins. It is very useful for farmers that want to level up quickly, as it earns 3000 XP upon purchase. You will start leveling up very quickly with the more pigs you buy. Saddleback pigs can be harvested for 1000 coins every 2 days, or everyday when placed in a pigpen. The primary use of this pig is to earn XP when you purchase it. The coins you yield from harvesting this pig do not compare to the price it costs to buy. It would take you 300 days (10 months) in a pigpen to make back your original investment of 300,000 coins. You are essentially ‘buying’ XP when you buy this pig. This pig will also hunt for black truffles, possibly allowing you to gain back those coins faster if you are awarded and sell the prize of a Strawberry Pig.

What is the pigpen and what do I need to do to get it?

The Pigpen is a storage building for your pigs. A pigpen costs 5,000 coins in the market. You must build it with building materials and you can only have one pigpen. A pigpen requires 8 bricks, 8 nails, and 8 wooden boards to complete the building process. After you have built your pen, you can start to load your pigs into it. Any type of pig can be placed into the pigpen. A pigpen will allow you to harvest your pigs everyday, instead of normally every two days.

*Note: A ‘Pregnant Sow’ that is placed in a pigpen will transform into a regular pig.

You can have up to 20 pigs in your pigpen when initially built. You can also expand your pigpen twice after this allowing 10 more pigs per expansion. The first expansion requires 12 of each building part and the second expansion requires 20 of each building part. You’ll need a total of 120 building parts to hold the maximum 40 pigs in you pen.

What benefits do I get from having a pig pen?

Pigs inside your pigpen will hunt for truffles. Truffles contain prizes that can be very useful to a farmer. These prizes include coins, fuel, and other types of pigs. Each type of pigs will hunt for a different colored truffle and each truffle will contain different prizes. Rarer truffles will contain better prizes. The different types of truffles in Farmville are: Brown, Black, White, and Gold.

What happens when a friend’s pig finds a truffle on your farm?

When your friends send their pigs out hunting there is a chance that they will find truffles on your farm. When this happens, they can ‘publish’ the finding to your profile. You will then have the option of accepting, not accepting, or accepting and sharing a truffle with your friend. If you choose to share it back with them, they will receive the same color truffle that you received. If you don’t share it or if your just accept it they will not receive any truffle.
