Ducks and the Duck Pond

Unlike some other animal buildings in Farmville, you are allowed to have more than one Duck Pond. The Farmville duck pond is a storage place for your ducks. You can store any type of duck here, including swans. Geese cannot be placed in the duck pond. Ponds need to be built with 20 shovels and 20 watering cans, both obtainable as Free Gifts or from the market. Duck ponds are also available to purchase for 40 Farm Cash in the market. They will take up 6×6 squares.

The pond can originally hold 20 ducks when first built. It can be expanded twice, adding 10 ducks each time for a total of 40 ducks with a full expansion. Each expansion calls for 20 watering cans and 20 shovels. A fully expanded duck pond will require a total of 120 parts to hold 40 ducks.

Duck ponds are harvestable. You can get coins daily depending upon the number of ducks you have in the pond and how many coins each one of them produces.

Ducks come in all varieties in the game of Farmville. There are the traditional ducks that are based on real-world ducks and there are fantasy ducks invented by Zynga. When you have completed your duck pond and start placing ducks in storage, you will be able to showcase up to 5 ducks. These are the ducks that your neighbors will see sitting on the pond when they visit your farm.

After Construction – What’s next?

Now that you have constructed your duck pond and it sits beautifully on your farm, what is the next step? Well, we’ve got to add some ducks!

You can choose pretty much whichever types of ducks you want to place in your duck pond. Every duck placed will become harvestable in 1 day, rather than the original 2 days. Everytime you harvest your pond containing ducks, you will have the chance of finding a Duckling in addition to earning coins.

Ducklings

Ducklings can come from different places. When you harvest your pond there is a chance you’ll find a duckling. When you help a friend grow a duckling, they might share a duckling back with you. You can also claim ducklings on the newsfeed.

Ducklings can grow into one of ten different types of ducks. You need to ask your friends to ‘help’ you grow your duckling. Once you get 7 people to help you will be able to choose which duck you want him to become. You have 7 days to get the help you need, but everyday that you don’t reach 7 people, you will miss out on getting the next highest level duck. To get the highest level duck you must get your help within the first day.

There are 3 different types of ducklings: Brown Duckling, Yellow Duckling, and Ugly Duckling.

The difference between the Brown and Yellow ducklings is the type of ducks that they can grow into.

Brown ducklings can grow into: Black Swan, Wood Duck, Muscovy Duck, Indian Runner Duck, Cayuga Duck, Goldeneye Duck, and Red Billed Duck.

Yellow ducklings can grow into: Indian Runner Duck, Cayuga Duck, Goldeneye Duck, Red Billed Duck, Scoter Duck, Pekin Duck, and Ugly Duckling.

If you are looking for a lucrative duck, you might want to consider trying to get the Black Swan. A black swan can be harvested for 80 coins, verse the 45 coins produced by other ducks.

You can also let your duckling stay a duckling forever. To do this, either do not attempt to grow it or click on the duckling and select ‘Stay Duckling Forever’.

The Ugly Duckling is a ‘Lost Animal’ that can be posted to the newsfeed. A farmer can adopt the ugly duckling and put it on their farm. The Ugly Duckling can transform into a White Swan. This is based on the fairytale “The Ugly Duckling”.

Where to get ducks

• Ducks can be purchased from the market under the section ‘animals’. Some ducks cost Farm Cash and some cost coins. Limited Edition ducks appear in the market on holidays and during events. They usually only stay there for a short time, but they may be re-released later in the game.

• Ducks can be grown from ducklings. You can get 10 different types of ducks through this method. Ducklings can also be obtained on the Facebook newsfeed or shared with you when you help a friend grow their duck.

• Ducks can be sent as free gifts. If you want ducks, just ask your neighbors or ‘make a wish’. You can only get a basic duck through Free Gifts, although ‘Belted Ducks’ were limited edition free gifts at one point. Belted ducks were also ‘Lost Animals’ that wandered onto farms and could be adopted if posted to the newsfeed.

• Pink Swans were available during the Valentine’s Event of 2011.

• Ugly Ducklings are ‘lost animals’ in Farmville. If you find one on your farm you can post it to your newfeed for your friends to claim. You can adopt an Ugly Duckling when your neighbors post them to their newsfeeds. Ugly ducklings will transform into White Swans. This is based on the fairytale “The Ugly Duckling”.

• The Valeducktorian was available as a reward for a week when you purchased a Farmville Game Card in September 2010.

• Some mystery games and mystery boxes offer ducks as prizes. For example, a Green Mallard was a mystery box prize during the St. Patty’s Day event in 2010. It was later re-released in the market in January of 2011 for 16 Farm Cash. Another example is the Eider Duck, which was a prize of the 27th Mystery Game.

• Long Tailed Ducks were and possibly still are prizes in the mystery gift which is available as a Free Gift.
