Cows and the Dairy

Introduction to the Dairy

The dairy is a place where you can store your cows and bulls. The dairy can be harvested once a day. When you have a bull in the dairy with other cows there is a chance that you will receive a calf while collecting your coins. The calf can be shared with your friends on the Facebook newsfeed. You will not be able to keep this calf, but you can collect calves from the newsfeed and your friends’ profiles. The number of coins you collect daily will depend on the amount of cows and bulls in the building and their worth. A dairy takes up 6×5 (a total of 30) squares on your farm.

When you place 20 cows in your dairy, you will save a lot of space on your farm. 20 cows would take up 80 squares outside your farm. With a total of 5 dairies holding a capacity of 40 cows each would only take up 150 total squares. 200 cows would take up 800 squares outside the dairy! When you place all of these cows in the dairy, you’ll save 650 squares. You could plant over 40 plots of crops in that space!

The dairy, like the chicken coop, does not need to be built. It can be purchased in the market for 10,000 coins or 20 Farm Cash. It can hold up to 20 cows (or 19 cows and 1 bull) when first purchased. Dairies can be expanded 2 times to hold up to 40 cows. Each expansion adds 10 cows. You must get neighbors to help you with a barnraising to expand, instead of collecting building materials. Unlike other buildings in Farmville, you can have up to 5 dairies with a maximum of 40 cows in each. That’s 200 cows that can be stored in your dairies!

Expanding Your Dairies

Dairies start off being able to hold 20 cows. You can expand twice to hold an additional 10 cows each time. You do not have to collect building materials to expand your Dairy. Instead, you must hold a barnraising. Your friends must click on your barnraising request. The help of 10 friends is required to complete your expansion.

How to expand your dairy

1. First, click on your dairy and press ‘Expand Storage’.

2. In this window you will be presented with different buildings that can be expanded. Under the Dairy Farm picture, you have the option to ‘Expand’ or ‘Buy’. Choose what you want to do: Host a barnraising or purchase the expansion with 10 Farm Cash.

3. If you have chosen ‘Expand’, you will have 3 days to get 10 friends to help you expand. Publish this request to your Facebook Newsfeed and profile so your friends can click it and ‘help’ you. *Note: You can only post this once, so make sure it is at a good time when you know your friends are online. More friends will click it when they see it on the newsfeed instead of having to search through your profile to find it.

4. If you find you are not getting the type of help you need, you can do a few things:

a. Try sending the barnraising request link to specific neighbors asking for help.
b. End the expansion early so you can retry it later. Click ‘Give Up’ to do this.

c. Buy the expansion with 10 Farm Cash. Sending a barnraising request to specific friends and neighbors in a message or chat

Sending a Barnraising request to specific neighbors

1. Locate your barnraising request on your profile.

2. Click on the barnraising picture. You should receive a message that says ‘Sorry, you can’t claim your own reward!” This is where you want to be.

3. Go to the top of your computer screen where you see the URL (http://www.facebook.com…) in the address bar. Copy the entire link.

4. Next, open up a new message or chat. ‘Paste’ the link into the message or chat and ask your friends if they can help you with barnraising. Then, send the message or press ‘Enter’ to send the chat.

*Note: If you see your friend is online, a chat message may be a more instant way to send the link. If you choose this method, make sure that you type in some of your own words after you send the link so your friends do not think it is a virus or scam, since many of those are floating around Facebook chats lately.

Introduction to Cows

Cows are large animals in Farmville. They can be harvested once a day and they can be stored in a Dairy. Cows come in many different breeds and colors. Some are exotic and only available for a limited amount of time. Others are available all the time. Some are free and some cost coins or Farm Cash.
Cows take up 2×2 squares for a total of 4 squares. A basic ‘Cow’ can be harvested for 6 coins each day. More exotic cow can be harvested for more coins. Cows can produce foals when placed in a dairy with a bull. Calves can be posted to the newsfeed for your friends to claim. You do not receive the calf from the dairy. You can claim your friends’ calves on the newsfeed and from their profiles. Up to 5 friends can claim your calf. All calves that are placed in a nursery barn will grow up to be a Holstein Cow or Chocolate Cow.

Where to get cows

Cows can come from different places. Some are free, some cost coins, and some cost Farm Cash. Here are the different places you can get cows:

• From free gifts
Your friends can send you a basic cow from as a free gift. You can ask them for cows or go to your giftbox and ‘Make a Wish’ for cows.

• From the Market
You can find a menagerie of cows in the market. Special ‘Belted Cows’ are available for 1,000,000 coins, but requires that you be level 75 to purchase it. This cow has more than one purpose which will be discussed below. Occasionally another cow will become available for coins, such as the ‘Red Cow’ for 100,000 coins in April 2011. Farm Cash cows are littered throughout the market. These cows usually come and go as a result of holidays and events. If you really have your heart set on getting one of the cows that already left the market, you can try contacting Zynga and they might sell you a retired cow for Farm Cash.

• Zynga Promotions
Sometimes you can get cows for free from Zynga from a new promotion.

• Calves will grow into cows in the Nursery Barn
When you place a calf in the nursery barn it will grow into an adult. Only 2 types of adult cows are achieved this way: Holstein Cow and Chocolate Cow.

• Lost animals
In the past, cows and bulls have been known to show up on farmers’ farms. It is very rare that one of these animals will show up on your farm now, but in the past the Cow, Brown Cow, Pink Cow, Groovy Cow, and Cow Referee were all known Lost Animals.

• In-game events, countdowns, games, and prizes for redeeming collectable items
On occasion, a cow or other animals will be a prize for some type of free game in Farmville. These games usually require you to complete steps to obtain certain items, especially with the help of friends. For example, the Disco Cow was the prize for the Winter Countdown of 2010. The Pink Patch Cow could have been redeemed for 150 valentines from the Valentine’s Mailbox.

Special Cows

The Belted Cow

The Belted Cow is very special in Farmville. It will let you quickly level up and churn out an unbelievable amount of coins each day. The more Belted Cows you have, the more coins per day you will receive. You must be Level 75 to buy a belted cow. Belted Cows are available in the market for 1,000,000 coins. This is a steep price, but if you use this cow properly, you will more than make up for it in the longrun. If used improperly, it will take almost a year to make back your 1,000,000 coins from the cow. You will receive 3,000 XP when you buy a Belted Cow. This helps greatly in leveling up quickly. XP is a one time thing, though. So, how can you earn a ton of coins from the belted cow each day? It’s not very hard…

The Belted Cow Trick

First, have an empty dairy with 30-40 ready cows. Have a few million coins saved and have at least 30-40 ready cows (of any type) outside your dairy. Buy a couple of belted cows. Place them on the field outside your dairy barn. Select your ‘move’ tool and move a ready non-belted cow into the dairy. This will make the dairy ready to harvest. Now, select the belted cows and move them into the diary. Collect your coins.

Next, remove all of the cows from the dairy and set them on the field outside the dairy. Select another ready cow and move it into the dairy, making it ready again. Select your belted cows and move them into the dairy. Collect your coins, and repeat. Let’s say you have 40 ready cows that you are using with your cow trick. Also, let’s say we have 3 belted cows, a good estimate for a belted cow user starting out. Everytime your 3 belted cows get harvested in the dairy, you earn 9,000 coins. If you perform this trick with all 40 ready cows, you will earn 360,000 coins in one sitting. If you have 40 belted cows, you can earn over 4 million coins per day.

*Note: It is not known whether or not Zynga had intended this to be the outcome for belted cows, or if this is considered a ‘cheat’. Use your own judgement and don’t abuse this trick. Use it at your own risk.

The Fan Cow

The Fan Cow was released in the market in April 2010 for 12 Farm Cash after the Farmville Cows page received 2 million ‘likes’. The price dropped to 50,000 coins when the page got 3 million ‘likes’. When a cow was purchased, the farmer had the chance to share one with friends on the Facebook newsfeed. There is a glitch associated with the Fan Cow. You can place the cow on your farm. Then, move it into your dairy. A message will pop up letting you share the Fan Cow to the newsfeed. Publish the cow to your newsfeed. Back on your farm, remove the cow from the barn and place it on your farm. Move the cow back into the dairy. Share and Publish. Repeat. DO NOT ABUSE GLITCHES AND USE THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Green Patch Cow

The Green Patch Cow could be received from the St. Patty’s Countdown or purchased in the market for 24 Farm Cash. However, there was a glitch involving this cow, too. This cow appeared in the market on March 10, 2011 with a ‘Buy’ and ‘Send’ button beneath it. For a short time this cow could be bought or sent without costing the farmer and coins or Farm Cash.

Breeding Cows

How to Breed Cows in Farmville

Breeding cows in Farmville is similar to breeding horses. The things you’ll need to do this are:

• A dairy barn
• A bull
• Special Cows (like pink, disco, longhorn, etc)
• OPTIONAL – Seed Cows (common ones like ‘cow’, ‘brown cow’, etc)

First, let’s discuss the bull a little bit. The ‘Bull’ is an adoptable ‘lost animal’ that appears on players’ farms. If it appears on your farm, you have the option of sharing it with your friends or not sharing it. You cannot keep the bull that you find on your farm. If you are seeking one, you can look on your newsfeed and friends’ profiles.

Unlike the Wandering Stallion, the bull is permanent once you collect it and will stay until you choose to sell it. It will not automatically be placed in the dairy. It will be in your giftbox.

Bulls can be harvested everyday for 80 coins. One bull can be kept in each dairy and you can have up to 5 dairies. Only one bull can be placed in a dairy at a time.

Bulls are necessary for producing calves. They have no effect on the breed of calves. The calf produced will be the same breed as his mother.

Choosing a Breed of Cow to Produce

Current Cow Breeds: Cow, Brown, Pink, Alien, Pink Patched, Kelly Green, fan, Longhorn, Tuscan, Neopolitan, Holstein, Chocolate, Groovy, Belted, Simmental, Holiday, Disco, Welsh, Hereford, and Rainbow. Referee Cows produce normal calves.

There is only one type of Bull. Bulls are infertile. They must be placed with a cow to produce calves.

Having multiple cows of the same breed will give you higher chances of finding a calf of that breed.

The Breeding Process

Unlike with the horse stable, cows can only produce calves once a day. There is no infinite breeding available with this building.
To breed calves, start with an empty dairy. Add your bull and the cows you want to breed. Harvest milk everyday from the dairy and you might get a calf. Come back the next day and harvest again. You can only harvest your dairy once every 24 hours.

Remember:

o You cannot keep the calves you produce. Only your friends can claim them off the newsfeed or your profile.

o There is a chance that you may receive a calf the same breed as the seed cow. You can reduce the chance of this happening by placing more special cows of the same breed into the dairy.

o You can use the stable-stuffing trick with the cow barn if you are looking for more coins. But you still will only be able to get 1 calf per day.
